In an unfortunate incident in Akure, Ondo State, a man whose identity remains unknown set himself and his wife on fire at their residence in the Ijoka area. Tragically, the man lost his life in the blaze, while his wife survived with severe injuries.
Reports indicate that the couple, married for a decade with two children, had been living separately due to undisclosed marital issues. The man had been pleading with his wife to reconcile, but she repeatedly declined his requests.
According to a source from the Ondo State police command, the man’s final desperate act came after his wife refused to reunite with him. The source revealed that the man lured his wife to their home under false pretenses, where he then locked them inside, doused them in petrol, and set them on fire.
The police confirmed the tragic incident, with the husband succumbing to his injuries on the scene, while the wife is currently receiving medical care for severe burns in a hospital.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the couple’s troubled relationship led to the horrific event, where the husband’s plea for reconciliation took a drastic and deadly turn.
