TCN arrests six suspected vandals, secures four convictions in Rivers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, specifically the Port Harcourt region, has expressed concern over the repeated attacks on its towers. The company has successfully convicted four individuals and apprehended six suspected vandals within its area of operation. As a result of these attacks, 20 vandalized towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132KV lines had to be repaired and rebuilt, which had caused prolonged power outages in parts of Bayelsa State.

During a recent news briefing in Port Harcourt, the General Manager of TCN’s Port Harcourt Region, Emmanuel Anyaegbulem, highlighted the challenges faced by the region due to these attacks. He mentioned that the region covers six states and emphasized the significant impact of the tower collapses on the power supply to Bayelsa State.

Anyaegbulem explained the extensive damage caused by the collapse of the towers and the subsequent efforts needed for repairs. These criminal acts not only posed challenges in terms of resources and time but also led to significant disruptions in the power supply chain. He stressed the importance of community involvement in safeguarding the company’s infrastructure and deterring vandalism.

The TCN GM also outlined other achievements of the company, including the commissioning of power transformers and rehabilitation of key substations in the region. He emphasized the role of the transmission sector in efficiently transporting power from generating companies to distribution centers without directly interacting with consumers, which falls under the responsibility of distribution firms.
