Court restrains Osun gov from appointing new Owa Obokun

In Ilesa, an Osun State High Court has issued a restraining order against the state governor and Ilesa kingmakers from appointing a new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland. The court’s decision stemmed from a suit filed by Prince Debo Adeyemi and others on behalf of the Ofokutu Royal Family of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House. The defendants in the case include the state governor, the Obanla of Ijesaland, and several kingmakers, among others. The applicants sought to prevent the appointment of a new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland until the suit regarding the stool is resolved. Justice A. Aderibigbe granted the applicants’ request for an interim injunction, prohibiting specific actions related to the appointment process. The case has been adjourned for a hearing in January 2025.
