The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria recently held an induction ceremony for 74 new graduates of Medicine and Surgery from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The group consisted of 57 males and 17 females from various states in Nigeria.
During the ceremony, the Registrar of MDCN, Dr. Fatima Kyari, encouraged the new doctors to see their profession as a means to serve humanity and stressed the importance of upholding professional ethics in their practice.
Dr. Kyari also mentioned the commitment of MDCN to increase medical school intakes and enhance healthcare delivery in line with the country’s healthcare agenda. The Vice-Chancellor of UDUS, Prof. Bashir Garba, reminded the new doctors of their duties, emphasizing compassion, continuous learning, and professionalism in their work.
The event also saw the former Vice-Chancellor of UDUS, Prof. Riskuwa Shehu, urging the new doctors to maintain ethical standards and emphasizing the evolving nature of the healthcare sector. Additionally, the Deputy Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Abdulgafar Jimoh, praised the institution’s resilience and called for continued support for medical education and healthcare development.
Furthermore, the Chief of Staff to the Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Dahiru Maccido, shared the state’s focus on healthcare by approving the recruitment of medical personnel and establishing a new teaching hospital.
Notable recognitions at the ceremony included Dr. Yusuf Ahovi as the Overall Best Graduating Doctor and Dr. Yakubu Mariam as the Best Female Medical Doctor. Several inductees expressed gratitude to their families, mentors, and the university, pledging to utilize their knowledge for the betterment of society.
The event was attended by various dignitaries from the medical and academic fields, showcasing the support and recognition for the new medical professionals.
