The government of Jigawa State has discovered 6,348 ghost workers during a staff verification exercise, resulting in savings of over N314 million monthly or N3.7 billion annually. The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, made this announcement in Dutse. Through the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise, the presence of ghost workers was identified, leading to substantial financial savings.
Musa mentioned that the detection of 6,348 ghost workers saved the state an average of N314,657,342.06 monthly, totaling N3,775,888,809.72 annually. The State Executive Council has reviewed the audit report and approved the establishment of a Continuous Capture Centre at the Office of the Head of Civil Service to expedite the data capture and validation process as part of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System.
Furthermore, the council approved contracts for the rehabilitation of flood-damaged roads in various local government areas. Additionally, funds were approved for the completion of community-based integration into the state’s Social Register Data Management Information System, aligning with efforts to extend social security coverage to previously excluded communities.
The Security Exchange Commission (SEC) also endorsed the implementation of recommendations from the Committee for the Retrieval of Farmlands Allocation across the state to promote peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders in Jigawa State.
