Drama as Edo committee storms tribunal to recover vehicle conveying PDP lawyers

In Benin, Edo State, a scene unfolded at the 2024 Edo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal when members of the state government’s Assets Recovery Committee went to retrieve a 32-seater coaster bus that belonged to the government. The bus was used to transport legal counsel for the Peoples Democratic Party to the tribunal at the Edo High Court.

Earlier that day, the committee had made an attempt to reclaim the bus, citing it as one of the assets allegedly taken by officials from the previous administration. An agreement was later reached with the lawyers on board that the bus would be returned after dropping them off at their destinations.

Tensions rose after the tribunal session when the committee members tried to forcefully take back the bus, leading to a physical altercation between the occupants and the committee. The situation was eventually diffused with the help of members from both the All Progressives Congress and the PDP.

Ultimately, the lawyers were able to leave the court premises on the bus.
