The Bauchi Police Command recently reported the apprehension of fifteen individuals for causing public unrest in the state. The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, released a statement to the press detailing the incident. According to the announcement, the group was allegedly involved in an attack on civilians and the Civilian Joint Task Force office near Kandahar Primary School. The perpetrators set fire to the office and a section of the State Government Primary School.
During the chaos, members of the Civilian JTF engaged the attackers, resulting in one assailant named Saidu Musa, aged 22, sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest. The police quickly responded to the situation, diffused the conflict, and took Musa to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest that on December 18, 2024, the Civilian JTF encountered a group of agitated youths in the Kandahar area. The following day, these youths regrouped and launched a violent assault on the Civilian JTF office and the government primary school, causing damage and distress to the community.
The police were commended for swiftly controlling the situation and apprehending fifteen suspects related to the incident. Investigations are ongoing. Police Commissioner Auwal Mohammed strongly denounced the attacks on government facilities and urged residents to report any issues to the authorities rather than resorting to violence.
The Commissioner has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.
