The Delta State Police Command recently apprehended Mr. Efe Onoetiyi for the murder of his close friend, Paulinus Okon, following the discovery that Efe had taken over N50 million from the victim. The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, made this revelation during a press briefing where he unveiled Efe and four other accomplices involved in the heinous act.
According to CP Olufemi, the tragic incident unfolded after Paulinus went missing on September 8, 2024, after being last seen with Efe. Initially, Efe denied any knowledge of Paulinus’s whereabouts but later resorted to requesting money from the victim’s family under false pretenses of helping to locate Paulinus. As suspicion grew, Efe was arrested, leading to a thorough investigation that exposed the gruesome details of the crime.
Further investigations revealed that Efe, along with Okeimute Gaga, Sunday Ikpeba, and a herbalist named Lawrence Joseph, had conspired to kill Paulinus. The group beheaded Paulinus near the Orere River and disposed of his body, while the herbalist buried his head at a shrine in Otokutu. Efe later confessed that he murdered Paulinus because he had misappropriated funds meant for a house purchase, leading to a chilling revelation of his greed-driven actions.
CP Olufemi emphasized the importance of vigilance in choosing friends and the need for parents to prioritize the upbringing of their children, especially boys. The suspects admitted to the crime during interrogations, revealing that the head was allegedly sacrificed to the community’s deities. The perpetrators are currently in custody awaiting justice for their heinous deeds.
