Ude-Okoye ready to resume as PDP national secretary

The former National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party has announced his intention to resume his position as the National Secretary of the opposition party following a Court of Appeal judgment. In an interview in Abuja, he emphasized his commitment to fulfilling the court order within 24 hours. He mentioned that without a stay of execution, he would assume office, emphasizing that the judgment is significant as it comes from the second highest court in Nigeria.

The PDP has been dealing with internal challenges before and after the 2023 general elections. The party has faced criticism from members towards the acting National Chairman and the former National Secretary. The removal of the previous National Chairman for failing to implement reforms has affected the party’s reputation and influence negatively.

The Court of Appeal upheld a High Court decision to remove the former National Secretary and affirmed the current appointee as the legitimate National Secretary of the party. The Court ruled that the ousted Secretary’s claim to the position was against the party’s constitution. The newly affirmed National Secretary stated his commitment to following the court’s decision unless the Supreme Court rules otherwise.
