Stop using IG’s name for fraudulent purposes, FPRO warns officers

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a statement emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy towards unprofessional officers misusing the name and position of the Inspector-General of Police. The Force’s Public Relations Officer expressed concern over the behavior of these officers, which tarnishes the reputation of the police force and undermines public trust.

Despite repeated warnings and disciplinary actions, some officers continue to engage in fraudulent activities, including using the name of the Inspector-General of Police to deceive victims. This deceitful tactic aims to intimidate victims into believing that their illegal actions are authorized by higher authorities, thus discouraging them from reporting such incidents.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any instances of misconduct or fraudulent behavior by police officers to the appropriate authorities. Citizens are advised to be cautious when approached by individuals claiming connections with high-ranking police officials for personal gain or influence.

This recent warning echoes a previous alert issued by the Nigeria Police Force, cautioning against the exploitation of the IGP’s name or office for malicious purposes.
