Remo gain top spot ahead NPFL mid-season break

Remo Stars, the two-time runners-up of the Nigeria Premier Football League, are on track to finish the year 2024 at the top of the table. They secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Akwa United in Ikenne, with Tochukwu Michael’s 82nd-minute free-kick sealing the win. This victory puts them three points ahead of Rivers United, who will need a significant win against Plateau United to overtake Remo Stars before the new year.

Following a successful December, 3SC sits in third place after a 1-0 win over Kwara United, with Adam Agba scoring the lone goal just before halftime. The team had a flawless month, winning all five matches and not conceding a single goal.

Reigning champions Rangers International also secured a 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes at home, maintaining their position in the league after a recent loss to 3SC. Other notable results include Ikorodu City’s 2-1 win over Sunshine Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors defeating Kano Pillars 1-0 in Maiduguri.

Teams currently in the relegation zone include Nasarawa United, Akwa United, Plateau United, and Lobi Stars. The league is set to take a three-week mid-season break after the completion of match-day 19 games.
