The authorities in Kano State have taken a positive step by including prison inmates in their healthcare scheme. This initiative aims to offer improved healthcare services to inmates without any cost. The decision was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Kano, Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa. The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Rahila Aliyu-Mukhtar, expressed the Governor’s approval for this program during a meeting with the State Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service.
Dr. Aliyu-Mukhtar emphasized the importance of providing inmates with proper healthcare to ensure effective custodial management and aid in their reform and reintegration into society. She also assured the Controller of the government’s commitment to supporting the medical needs of all inmates. The Controller, Mr. Ado Salisu, appreciated the government’s assistance, noting that it would encourage inmates to lead productive lives once they are released.
