Varsity degrees without practical skills useless – Akande

A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress has advocated for a shift in the traditional educational system in Nigeria to focus on equipping graduates with practical skills that can drive national growth and development.

During a meeting at his residence in Osun State, he emphasized the importance of universities producing graduates who can contribute effectively to the economy. He mentioned that degrees should be awarded based on skills relevant to the country’s development rather than just academic qualifications.

The individual, who is an alumnus of a particular university, praised the institution for its recent recognition as Nigeria’s top state university by Times Higher Education. He credited this success to the leadership of the university.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor of the university highlighted the institution’s efforts to equip students with practical skills that prepare them for various opportunities after graduation. He mentioned the focus on providing skills for profitable engagements rather than solely seeking traditional employment.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation for the individual’s support and guidance, acknowledging the valuable input towards the university’s progress.
