The newly appointed Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has made a commitment to combat issues such as cultism, armed robbery, and communal conflicts within the state. During his inaugural press briefing in Port Harcourt, he emphasized the importance of addressing recent crises arising from political interests and maintaining law and order through a proactive and strategic approach.
Adepoju outlined key areas of focus, including enhancing intelligence gathering, community policing, and public engagement. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards kidnapping, oil bunkering, and other violent crimes. Additionally, he pledged to prioritize quick responses to emergencies and distress calls, as well as increasing police visibility in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The Commissioner stressed the significance of collaborating with communities, traditional institutions, and security agencies to prevent crimes proactively. He highlighted the importance of rebuilding public trust in the police force through professional and respectful interactions. Adepoju also underlined the necessity of maintaining integrity, transparency, and accountability within the police ranks.
Furthermore, he expressed a commitment to curbing cultism, youth violence, and oil theft while working closely with youth groups and civil society to promote peace. Adepoju also stated his intention to combat environmental crimes by dismantling criminal networks in the oil industry. He called for a united effort among all stakeholders to create a safer environment in Rivers State.
