Osimhen scores 10th league goal in Galatasaray win

Victor Osimhen, the forward for the Super Eagles, scored his 10th goal in the Turkish Super Lig from a penalty kick as Galatasaray secured a 2-1 win against Gotzepe at RAMS Park in Istanbul over the weekend.

The Nigerian player capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity after Kaan Ayhan was fouled by Djalma Silva, giving the league leaders an early lead.

Although Romulo Cruz equalized for Gotzepe in the 27th minute with an assist from Antony Dennis, Yunus Akgun restored Galatasaray’s lead in the 60th minute. A late goal by Lucas Torreira was disallowed by VAR.

This victory extends Galatasaray’s lead at the top of the league table to 11 points ahead of Fenerbahçe after 17 matches.

Osimhen, who is on loan from Napoli, now shares the second spot in the league’s top scorers list with 10 goals, alongside Simon Banza and Mame Baba Thiam, following Krzysztof Piatek with 12 goals.

Since his move to Turkey, the 25-year-old has been in outstanding form, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 15 games across various competitions.

His impressive performances have sparked interest from various European clubs, particularly in the Premier League, as the January transfer window is now open.

However, Osimhen recently stated his commitment to staying with Galatasaray until the end of the season.

“I will not leave in January, I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about afterwards, but if they come to me, we will talk,” Osimhen mentioned after his double against Tottenham in the UEL.

The unbeaten league leaders are now preparing for their upcoming Turkish Cup match against Başakşehir on Wednesday as they aim to continue their impressive performance under manager Pierre Sage.
