In Agbor, Delta State, a tragic incident involving a tanker explosion has resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property. The explosion occurred on the Old Lagos-Asaba Road near First Bank in Agbor Central, causing multiple fatalities, injuries, and extensive damage to vehicles and buildings.
According to reports, the petrol tanker caught fire after overturning while attempting to navigate a turn on the road. The blaze claimed the lives of several individuals, with initial reports confirming five fatalities. Additionally, numerous people sustained injuries, and multiple houses, banks, and vehicles in the vicinity were engulfed in flames.
Despite the severity of the situation, the absence of firefighters at the scene exacerbated the fire’s spread. Many injured individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The police public relations officer for the state, SP Bright Edafe, officially acknowledged the incident, stating that two individuals lost their lives. He further disclosed that First Bank, Access Bank, two other houses, and two vehicles were among the properties affected by the tragic event.
