The Nigerian Air Force recently honored 47 newly promoted officers at the 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group in Gombe. The promotions comprised 23 officers, five senior non-commissioned officers, and 19 non-commissioned officers. Among those recognized was Warrant Officer Aliyu Jatau, who was promoted to Master Warrant Officer. The ceremony took place during the veterans’ parley and the Base Annual Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) 2024 at the NAF Base in Lawanti, Gombe.
Wing Commander Maxine Mokelu, the Commander of 109 CRG, emphasized that the promotions were in line with the Air Staff Chief’s aim of maintaining a highly motivated force. The event also included discussions on various topics during the veterans’ parley, providing an opportunity to honor the contributions of living heroes.
The Base Annual Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) is an annual tradition within the military that celebrates cultural diversity and fosters unity among personnel and their families. It serves as a platform to relax, celebrate achievements, and strengthen bonds in a festive atmosphere, showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity.
Retired Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Mu’azu and retired Master Warrant Officer Bagudu expressed optimism and support for the collaboration between retired and serving personnel, urging authorities to continue and enhance initiatives that benefit both current officers and veterans. Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, pledged the government’s support for community development and emphasized the commitment to providing security and infrastructure across the state.
Governor Yahaya also praised Wing Commander Mokelu for his leadership and contribution to the state’s security, acknowledging the commander’s efforts in supporting the security framework.
