Israeli raids in West Bank leave two Palestinians dead

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that two individuals were killed on Tuesday by Israeli forces during separate raids in the northern West Bank. The Israeli military claimed they targeted a “terrorist cell” during the incidents.

According to the Ramallah-based ministry, one Palestinian was killed in Tammun, while another lost their life in Talouza. The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed that an 18-year-old from Tammun was killed due to shelling, with five others severely injured in the same Israeli raid.

The deceased from Tammun, identified as Suleiman Qutaishat, was taken to the Turkish Hospital in Tubas. In a separate incident near Talouza, a 40-year-old Palestinian named Jaafar Dababshe was shot dead by Israeli forces in front of his house.

The Israeli army did not provide additional details but mentioned on its Telegram channel that an air force aircraft targeted an armed terrorist cell in the Tammun area early on Tuesday.

Violence has escalated in the Israeli-occupied West Bank since the Gaza conflict began on 7 October 2023, triggered by an attack on Israel by Hamas. The Ramallah-based health ministry reported that at least 820 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops or settlers in the West Bank since the conflict began. Meanwhile, Israeli official figures show that at least 28 Israelis have died in Palestinian attacks in the West Bank during the same period.

A separate incident on Monday saw three Israelis killed when gunmen attacked a bus and other vehicles in the West Bank. Israel has held control of the West Bank since 1967.
