Fire service blames negligence as 100 die in 2024 fire incidents

Reports from the Federal Fire Service indicate that Nigeria experienced significant losses due to fire incidents in 2024, with 100 lives lost and properties valued at N67.1 billion destroyed.

On a positive note, the service managed to save 30,890 lives and properties worth N1.94 trillion during various fire outbreaks throughout the country in the same year.

The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Abdulganiyu Jaji, shared these statistics during a press briefing in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of fire safety measures and compliance with regulations.

Jaji highlighted the need for increased caution and vigilance, especially during the harmattan season when the risk of fire incidents is heightened due to factors like low humidity.

He specifically called on operators of fuel stations, gas refilling plants, and users of gas cylinders to strictly adhere to safety protocols to prevent disasters.

Looking forward to 2025, Jaji reaffirmed the Federal Fire Service’s dedication to enhancing public safety, response efficiency, and the integration of advanced technology into their operations.
