Taraba taskforce seizes hidden iron monoxide in illegal shipment

The Special Taskforce on Environmental Protection, Public Safety, and Prohibition of Deforestation in Taraba State successfully intercepted a trailer loaded with 241 bags of iron monoxide, a valuable mineral used in various industries. The mineral was concealed beneath layers of waste wood and rubber dust.

A statement from the taskforce’s Media and Communication Officer, Mr Ibrahim Zuppai, revealed that the truck was stopped while en route from Gashaka Local Government Area to an undisclosed destination. The interception is part of the taskforce’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities that harm the environment and impact the state’s revenue.

The trailer and its contents are currently under investigation by the Taraba State Special Mobile Court on Environmental Protection. Chairman Rtd. Gen. Jeremiah Faransa expressed concerns about revenue losses due to environmental violations and reiterated the taskforce’s commitment to addressing these issues effectively.

In a separate event, General Faransa visited the Tsiken of Chinkai Chiefdom in Wukari Local Government Area to emphasize the area’s significance for Taraba’s economic and social progress. He urged the community to support the state government and collaborate in eliminating criminal activities.

The Tsiken commended the taskforce for its dedication to environmental protection and public safety. He also appreciated the state government’s road construction projects in Chinkai, recognizing their potential to enhance commercial activities. The community leader pledged unwavering support for the state governor and praised his initiatives for the development of Chinkai and the state.
