ICPC arraigns boundary commission director, staff for forgery, abuse of office

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission recently brought charges against two individuals, the Director of Administration and Supplies at the National Boundary Commission, Aishatu Abdullahi, and the Assistant Chief Accountant, Ghaji Rahila. The allegations include forgery and abuse of office.

The arraignment took place before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja. The charges involve claims that the defendants conspired to enable Rahila to participate in a senior promotion exercise and secure a promotion to the rank of Chief Accountant while holding employment at another organization simultaneously.

Furthermore, Rahila is accused of forging an admission letter from Carnegie Mellon University to support her application for a leave of absence from the National Boundary Commission. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges during the court proceedings.

Bail was granted to the defendants under specific conditions, including providing two sureties each who must be Abuja residents and hold the rank of director in a federal parastatal. The sureties are required to ensure the defendants’ appearance in court throughout the trial, with the risk of imprisonment if they fail to do so. The defendants were also instructed to deposit their travel documents with the court registrar.

The trial is set to begin on March 17, 2025, as ordered by the judge.
