President Bola Tinubu recently reiterated his administration’s dedication to implementing climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance food security and minimize environmental impacts. He emphasized Nigeria’s role in leading a just energy transition and sustainable development across Africa. Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Tinubu highlighted the importance of international collaboration to achieve sustainable development and combat the effects of climate change.
Acknowledging Nigeria’s position as Africa’s most populous nation and one of the largest economies on the continent, Tinubu stressed the country’s responsibility to take the lead in addressing climate issues. He outlined Nigeria’s focus on energy transition, climate resilience, and sustainable development as key pillars of its strategy.
Tinubu also mentioned Nigeria’s efforts to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. The country is investing in infrastructure for compressed natural gas, electric vehicles, and exploring solid minerals essential for promoting the green energy transition.

Tinubu noted Nigeria’s pioneering efforts in funding green projects through Sovereign Green Bond issuances, inviting further collaboration with investors.
