Why I would not speak about Tinubu’s govt economic reforms – Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has announced his decision to refrain from offering advice to the current administration on economic matters. Speaking at the 21st Memorial Lecture of Chief Gani Fawehinmi in Lagos, Sanusi expressed his reluctance to continue assisting the government due to his disapproval of its economic reform strategies.

Sanusi highlighted that he had previously supported the government but has chosen to withdraw his assistance, criticizing its approach to economic reforms. He emphasized that he no longer wishes to aid the government and prefers to remain silent on economic issues to avoid inadvertently supporting their policies.

The former Central Bank Governor stressed the importance of the government taking responsibility for communicating its policies to the public. He pointed out that the country’s economic challenges are partly a result of prolonged mismanagement and irresponsible governance.

Sanusi described his current role as that of a passive observer, likening his position to watching a movie with popcorn in hand. He made it clear that he is no longer actively involved in providing advice or support to the government on economic matters.
