Lagos ex-Head of Service Ajose dies at 78, Tinubu mourns

The recent passing of a distinguished elder statesman and former Head of Service, Akinsanya Ajose, has prompted President Bola Tinubu to extend his sympathies to the Lagos State Government and the All Progressives Congress.

Originally from Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, Ajose passed away at the age of 78 on January 16, 2025. He began his career in the Lagos Civil Service in 1979, eventually rising to the position of head of service in 2004. Ajose was also a valued member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council.

President Tinubu lauded Ajose as a skilled administrator and committed civil servant, highlighting his pivotal role in aligning the civil service with government policies during his tenure. Even after stepping down as head of service, their close relationship endured due to Ajose’s leadership abilities and dedication to development.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state government, and its citizens. He offered prayers for comfort and strength to Ajose’s family and eternal peace for the departed.

Ajose, born on February 10, 1946, in Badagry, pursued his education in Nigeria before obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Science from the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1973. Subsequently, in 1974, he earned a Master’s in Social Science from Governors State University in the United States.
