PUNCHwoman shines at global reporter competition in Germany

The Head of Programmes for the Video Unit recently made history by becoming the first Reporter Slam winner in Africa. The event took place in Berlin, Germany, where she competed in a live journalism competition on January 18, 2025.

Having previously won the Reporter Slam Africa competition in Cape Town on June 6, 2024, this multimedia journalist qualified for the Berlin competition. The event, organized by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Media Africa, featured six journalists from various African countries showcasing their stories through a mix of music, art, video, sound, and dance.

During her presentation in Berlin, the winner shared her experience of hosting a live television interview with Nigerian lawmakers without a script, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and teamwork in challenging situations. Despite not winning the grand prize, she considered the opportunity to share her story on live television a personal triumph.

Reflecting on the event, she expressed the significance of journalists sharing their experiences with the audience, shedding light on the dedication and challenges involved in their craft. The ultimate prize was awarded to a journalist from a German newspaper.
