The ongoing emergency reconstruction of the Irrua-Ewu-Agbede Road in Uhunwonde/Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, led by the Niger Delta Development Commission, is close to being finished.
The Managing Director of NDDC, along with the Executive Director of Projects, recently inspected the road and confirmed the progress. The Ewu-Agbede portion is now accessible, while work on the 1.7-kilometre Irrua section is underway, with 300 meters of asphalting already completed.
The significance of this road as a vital link between the North and South, contributing to the region’s economic development, was highlighted. Once completed, the road will alleviate transportation challenges and support the movement of goods and services.
The project’s economic benefits were emphasized, especially in facilitating the transportation of agricultural and economic goods. It was noted that a disruption in this route could lead to increased food prices and impact the economy negatively.
Upon completion, the Irrua-Agbede project will link up with the Benin-Irrua road project, managed by the Federal Ministry of Works. The progress made in sand-filling, stone-base, earthwork, and asphalting was commended, indicating significant advancements in the project.
