Nigerian business owners allege illegal raid by S’Africa officials

The Nigerian Union South Africa has expressed concern regarding reported incidents of property damage and seizures during a recent by-law enforcement operation at the Navy House, Fatima Building in Pretoria Central.

In a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary of the union, Akindele Olunloyo, it was mentioned that NUSA President, Smart Nwobi, was informed by Nigerian business owners about an unauthorized raid on their premises on January 17, 2025. The operation involved various government agencies as part of the “Reclaim Our City” initiative.

The statement highlighted that officials allegedly confiscated valuable items like Brazilian hair extensions, electronics, salon equipment, money, and beverages. Additionally, they reportedly dismantled surveillance systems and caused damage to the building structure.

NUSA promptly responded by sending executives to investigate the situation and speak with the affected business owners. The union mentioned that the business owners have formally lodged a complaint with the SAPS Pretoria Central Station for further investigation.

The complaint has been registered under case reference CAS 385/1/2025 to address the allegations of misconduct by government officials during the enforcement action.
