He also indicated the possibility of negotiating with the Chinese leader on Taiwan and trade, emphasizing the US’s position of strength in the relationship. However, he highlighted tariffs as a significant tool in dealing with China.
Following his inauguration, there were talks of imposing tariffs on Chinese imports, which had been a focal point during his campaign. China responded by urging dialogue and consultation to resolve differences between the two countries.
China’s foreign ministry emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between the US and China, cautioning against trade and tariff conflicts that could harm global interests.
