NDIC endorses deposit insurance module in ICAN curriculum

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation is advocating for the inclusion of a deposit insurance module in the curriculum of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

During a visit by the ICAN Governing Council to the NDIC office in Abuja, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDIC, Mr Bello Hassan, emphasized the importance of incorporating a deposit insurance module in the ICAN examinations. This move aims to improve the understanding of the Deposit Insurance Scheme among ICAN members, who play crucial roles in the banking sector.

Hassan reiterated the commitment of NDIC to collaborate with ICAN in enhancing the stability of the banking sector and the overall financial system of the country.

The ICAN president praised NDIC for its strong commitment to corporate governance standards, anti-corruption measures, and effective internal controls. The Corporation’s dedication was acknowledged by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, which recognized NDIC’s outstanding performance in its 2023 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard.

Highlighting the partnership between ICAN and NDIC, the ICAN president mentioned the establishment of the ICAN Accountability Index to promote integrity in key economic sectors, focusing on areas like budget credibility, and asset and debt management.
