The Minister of Solid Minerals Development recently revealed that a tragic explosion in Sabon Pegi, Niger State, resulted in the loss of three lives and the destruction of 40 houses. The incident was attributed to an individual, Yushua Maikampala, who illegally hoarded explosives. The unauthorized accumulation of these materials by Maikampala was identified as the main cause of the explosion.
Officials were dispatched to the blast site for assessment following the incident. Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion, ignited by an electrical spark, devastated the area where the explosives were stored along with neighboring houses.
Expressing condolences to the victims and affected families, the minister emphasized the avoidable nature of the tragedy, citing negligence in handling and storing explosives. Measures were taken to investigate the source of the explosives and hold the responsible party, Maikampala, accountable for his actions.
Efforts were also made to ensure mining operators adhere to safety standards to prevent similar incidents in the future. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of strict regulations and proper handling of explosives to safeguard lives and property.
