UNILAG radiography graduates stranded over accreditation crisis

The 2024 graduates from the Radiography Department at the University of Lagos, Akoka, have expressed dissatisfaction with the school’s management for jeopardizing their future. The Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria de-accredited their program after their seven years of study. The graduates claimed the lack of essential medical equipment and qualified lecturers led to the de-accreditation.

The graduates fear for their future due to the prolonged accreditation crisis. The Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, established to regulate radiography practice in Nigeria, plays a crucial role in licensing and maintaining a registry of radiographers in the country.

Despite completing their final exams in August 2024, the graduates discovered the de-accreditation, hindering their dreams of becoming certified radiographers. The lack of accreditation prevents them from taking the necessary professional qualification exams for licensing and internships.

The accreditation crisis has been ongoing since 2016, affecting multiple cohorts of students. The department’s inability to meet the board’s equipment requirements has led to delays in graduates’ inductions and professional advancements.

Efforts to seek clarification from the institution’s Communication Unit were met with a request to submit questions via email. However, as of the latest update, there has been no response from the spokesperson regarding the accreditation issue.
