Soldiers intercept Niger Republic arms dealers in Zamfara

Recently, a joint operation between the 1 Brigade of the Joint Task Force Operation Fasan Yamma and the Department of State Services led to the interception of a significant arms cache in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation, which took place on January 27, 2025, was prompted by intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected arms dealers from the Niger Republic in the area.

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre, Operation Fasan Yamma, troops swiftly acted on the intelligence and conducted a covert operation to apprehend the suspects.

The pursuit of the suspects along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road resulted in the suspects abandoning their vehicle and fleeing on foot after being pressured by the tactical response of the troops.

A search of the abandoned vehicle revealed a significant arsenal, including two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.

Additionally, efforts are underway to capture the notorious terrorist leader, Bello Turji, who has been evading arrest by frequently changing his locations.

Authorities have assured the public of their unwavering commitment to ensuring safety and security by taking all necessary measures to apprehend Turji and dismantle criminal networks in the region.
