Opposition tackles Atiku over alleged N50m APC bribe

The All Progressives Congress recently criticized a former Vice President for alleging that the government paid N50 million bribes to opposition parties to undermine their leadership before the next election. The opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, New Nigeria People’s Party, Labour Party, and Social Democratic Party, all refuted these claims in separate statements.

Atiku made these accusations during a national conference on democracy in Abuja. He warned about the potential threat to democracy if such actions continued. The APC responded by expressing disappointment in Atiku and urged him to provide concrete evidence to support his allegations.

The APC’s National Publicity Secretary dismissed Atiku’s claims as baseless and desperate, criticizing the former VP for peddling rumors without proof. The party also denounced allegations from Atiku, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai that the ruling party was involved in opposition crises.

The Labour Party denied receiving any bribes and deemed the alleged amount insulting. Similarly, the PDP emphasized its self-sufficiency and criticized the current APC administration. The NNPP suspected APC involvement in their internal issues but denied receiving support from the government.

The SDP also refuted claims of bribery and emphasized its self-sustainability, challenging Atiku to provide evidence of his allegations. The party’s National Chairman stated that no government official had contributed any funds to the SDP, asserting their integrity.
