Navy uncovers abandoned Ogun oil well

Recent efforts by the Nigerian Navy successfully thwarted oil thieves attempting to exploit an abandoned oil well at Oke-Agor-Isekun, situated near the boundary of Ogun and Ondo states.

The commander of the Naval Base in the Epe area of Lagos State, Navy Captain Solomon Ohunenese, shared this development in a statement released on Wednesday.

Upon receiving intelligence about the deserted oil well, Naval officers from the base swiftly conducted an operation to address the situation.

It was revealed that the neglected oil well, which had become a target for oil thieves and criminal elements, was a cause for concern.

The statement highlighted the joint effort made by Naval Base Epe and officials from the Ogun State Government after credible intelligence was received regarding the situation at Oke-Agor-Isekun.

The statement emphasized the detrimental impact of oil theft on the country’s economy and environment, citing revenue loss for the government and environmental risks due to unregulated siphoning activities.

In response to the intelligence, personnel were swiftly dispatched to the site, and security measures were implemented to prevent further illegal activities at the oil well.
