Nigeria’s rising star in fencing, Inkosi Brou, is focused on his journey towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. He aims to secure medals at key championships in Africa and on the global stage this year, with a strong determination to make history as the first Nigerian fencer at the Olympics.

Currently holding the 23rd position in the world junior ranking and 64th globally, Brou has been actively participating in tournaments to boost his ranking since the start of the current fencing season in September 2024.

At just 17 years old, he is the second highest-ranked African junior fencer and is striving to excel at the African Junior Championships in Angola, the African Senior Championships, and the Junior World Championships in China this year. Brou sees 2025 as a significant step in his quest for the Olympics and is eager to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in his fencing career.

Reflecting on his journey so far, Brou expressed gratitude to his coaches for their support in his remarkable progress since he began fencing for Nigeria in October 2023. His recent achievements include a commendable 10th place finish out of 216 fencers at the 2024 World Cup in Colombia.

Driven by his ambition to compete in the 2028 Olympics, Brou acknowledges the dedication and hard work required to reach such a prestigious goal. His experiences in international competitions have provided valuable lessons in adapting to the demands of high-level fencing and constant travel.

Brou’s accomplishments extend beyond the fencing arena, as he is recognized for his achievements, including being the first Nigerian selected for the All-American Fencing First Team and securing Nigeria’s first-ever sabre category medal at the World Tournoi Satellite Cup in Iceland in September 2024.
