A Nigerian amateur footballer, Oladipupo Osineye, also known as Olagreat, recently shared his experience of getting a trial with La Liga side Sevilla. In an interview, he discussed his journey and aspirations.
What inspired your tweet about the Sevilla trial?
I wanted to attract the attention of big teams and showcase my skills as part of my goal to sign a professional contract.
Have you had any formal contact with Sevilla?
They reached out to me through a video and a direct message, guiding me on the next steps for the tryout, which I have completed. I am now awaiting further instructions.
Why did you choose Sevilla for the trial?
I have been following Spanish football closely, particularly Sevilla, and admired players like Chidera Ejuke. The opportunity arose, so I took my chance with Sevilla.
Can you share your football journey?
I have been playing football since childhood, balancing it with education. I moved through various teams and academies, winning titles along the way. After studying Computer Science at FUTA, I continued playing in Lagos and Akure.
How have you managed financially as an amateur player?
I have earned some money from tournaments and allowances, although it has been challenging to cover all expenses. Support from family and friends has been crucial.
What was your experience like playing in the Lagos Liga?
Participating in the Lagos Liga was a significant opportunity for grassroots players like me. It provided exposure and financial rewards that were helpful in my football journey.
Are you prepared for the trial with Sevilla?
I have been mentally and physically preparing for this opportunity. I understand the importance of being ready for such chances, and I am determined to give my best during the trial.
Regardless of the outcome, how do you plan to grow from this experience?
I believe every experience offers a chance to learn and improve. I am focused on staying resilient and persistent in pursuing my goal of signing a professional contract.
What are your aspirations beyond football?
After my playing career, I aim to remain involved in football, possibly as a coach or in an administrative role.
