The Oyo State Government has established a committee for the coronation of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade. The committee, led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, includes members from the state cabinet and the House of Assembly, as well as local government chairmen and family members of the Alaafin.
Arrangements are being made to ensure a successful coronation in adherence to Oyo traditions. The state government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, emphasizes the importance of diligence and support for the event’s success.
Oba Owoade received his appointment letter as the Alaafin-designate from the governor, and preparations for his coronation are underway. The coronation is scheduled to take place in four weeks, following the completion of necessary traditional rites.
It is noted that Owoade had to return to Canada to finalize professional commitments before assuming his role as the Alaafin of Oyo. His ascension follows the passing of the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who ruled the Oyo Kingdom for half a century.
Reports have emerged of an unauthorized coronation committee being dissolved by Oba Owoade, emphasizing the need for prior approval for any related events. The Oyo State Government has set the date of Saturday, April 5 for the coronation of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.
