The Chairperson of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has assured the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation of the commission’s support in boosting deaf sports and providing opportunities for athletes with special needs to showcase their talents. Dikko made this commitment during a meeting with an NDSF delegation led by its president, Dagbo Saka, at the NSC secretariat in Abuja.
Dikko acknowledged the efforts of the federation in pursuing their passion despite challenges, emphasizing the determination and self-belief displayed by the athletes. He mentioned that budget allocations have been made for the development of para sports, including the procurement of equipment and kits to enhance the sport.
Expressing the commission’s commitment to creating a conducive platform for athletes, Dikko highlighted the importance of collaboration to ensure shared prosperity and growth within the sports sector. He emphasized the inclusivity of sports, stating that it is open to everyone, regardless of gender or challenges faced.
Dikko also mentioned President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to supporting individuals with disabilities, indicating a collective effort to address the needs of people living with challenges. Commending the federation for their achievements in international competitions, he encouraged them to broaden their scope by organizing developmental tournaments at state levels.
Furthermore, Dikko urged the federation to provide their annual program of activities in alignment with the directives issued to other sports bodies. He also praised the Director-General of NSC, Bukola Olopade, for his strong support for para sports, highlighting his personal contributions to the sector.
