The Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to question two former Permanent Secretaries from the Federal Ministry of Labour, Williams Alo and Yerima Tafa, regarding the alleged mismanagement of N3.2bn during their time in office.
The committee, led by Bamidele Salam, expressed frustration with government entities ignoring summons to address audit queries. Despite sending multiple invitations to the ministry, there has been no response or cooperation.
Salam highlighted that the former Permanent Secretaries must be held accountable for the financial irregularities that occurred under their watch. The current Permanent Secretary, Saliu Usman, was given 72 hours to appear before the committee to address the audit queries or face consequences.
During a public hearing, Salam stressed the importance of tightening financial oversight to prevent revenue losses and ensure accountability in government agencies. The committee also outlined various financial discrepancies within the ministries, emphasizing the need for transparency and adherence to regulations. Additionally, other Permanent Secretaries were also called to appear before the committee within a specified timeframe.
