The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee questioned the Nigerian Immigration Service about a stamp duty payment to Julius Berger. They demanded the N15 million be recovered and remitted to the Federal Inland Revenue Service within a week, with evidence of the remittance to be provided. The committee, led by Bamidele Salam, took action due to NIS’s failure to address audit queries from 2020 and 2021 reports. It was noted that NIS did not submit audited accounts from 2014 to 2023, hindering the determination of their liability for operating surplus remittance. Additionally, discrepancies were found in a contract with Julius Berger for which necessary approvals were not obtained. The committee directed NIS to submit overdue audited accounts, proof of contract approval, and respond to financial queries.
