Renowned leadership coach and former presidential candidate, Fela Durotoye, shared a story of how he resisted a corrupt government deal worth N5bn despite pressure from an official who claimed to be a pastor. Speaking at a conference in Abuja, Durotoye recounted the incident as a test of his integrity. He was approached with a training contract to train people in all 774 local government areas within eight weeks. Despite being assured he was the chosen candidate, he was asked to inflate the cost from N1.3bn to N5bn. Refusing to compromise his values, Durotoye turned off his phone when pressure escalated. Months later, news broke of the arrest of officials for embezzling funds from the same training project. Reflecting on the importance of moral values, Durotoye highlighted the need to uphold integrity and resist corrupt practices. He also shared his experience of serving without accepting perks during his time in government. Durotoye emphasized the significance of having strong values to combat corruption in society.
