The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, expressed concerns about an alleged plan by the government to arrest and detain him, similar to what was claimed to have happened to a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. El-Rufai stated that he had been informed about this plot through various channels, including messages sent to him by his relatives. Despite these threats, El-Rufai asserted that he would not succumb to intimidation and would remain in the country.
El-Rufai emphasized that he was undeterred by the possibility of arrest, torture, or even death, stating that he intended to stay in Nigeria and continue speaking out against perceived injustices. He made it clear that he would not be swayed by attempts to force him into exile. Additionally, El-Rufai criticized the government and called for opposition parties to unite against the ruling party, prompting reactions from government officials.
In a separate incident, El-Rufai engaged in a verbal dispute involving a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and Nuhu Ribadu over allegations made against a prominent political figure. El-Rufai supported the claims made by one party and accused Ribadu of selective memory regarding past statements attributed to him. Despite these controversies, El-Rufai remained steadfast in his resolve to stay in Nigeria and continue his political engagements.
