A team from the Ogun State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, recently rescued 16 individuals reportedly subjected to sexual abuse at a brothel called Rail Line Hotel in Ifo, located in the state’s Ifo Local Government Area. The victims, aged between 12 and 27, were saved following a tip-off from concerned citizens. These teenagers were taken to the agency’s headquarters in Abeokuta along with a woman identified as Mrs. Idem Nwanna Joy, who was responsible for them.
During a press briefing in Abeokuta, Brigadier Alade Adedigba (retd.), the Corps Commander, disclosed that the girls, mostly from Akwa-Ibom State, with one each from Cross River and Delta State, were rescued based on information received from Ifo residents. Additionally, a significant sum of money was recovered from the alleged trafficker, along with items like tissue rolls, suspected drugs, and packs of condoms found at the hotel, reportedly owned by Mrs. Yemisola Okutoro who remains at large.
The Commander emphasized the commitment of Governor Dapo Abiodun to enhance security and welfare in the state, citing recent reinforcements in the Amotekun Corps as part of these efforts. Adedigba stated that criminal activities would not find refuge in Ogun State, underscoring the agency’s dedication to combatting such elements.
The rescued victims are set to be handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Persons for further intervention. Some of the girls revealed disturbing details, including being made to swear oaths while naked with religious texts to prevent them from escaping or disclosing the abuse. One victim shared how they were exploited by their “boss” who controlled their earnings.
The alleged trafficker, Idem Joy, admitted to receiving the girls from their relatives and another woman who remains unidentified, mentioning that some of the victims used their earnings to support their children and send money back to those who facilitated their exploitation.
