NNPC denies importing 200 million litres of petrol

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has refuted claims of importing 200 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, and clarified that it has not imported any volume of the product in 2025. The statement addressing the misinformation was issued by the NNPCL Chief Corporate Communications Officer in Abuja.

The company attributed the false report to either lazy and unprofessional journalism or an intentional effort by economic saboteurs to deceive the public. NNPC emphasized that it does not oversee the import activities of private marketers and labeled it as irresponsible to attribute all petrol imports to the company.

While NNPC has not been involved in petrol imports this year, it emphasized its right to do so if the situation demands. The company stressed the importance of energy security and its readiness to intervene in the market to stabilize supply if needed.

NNPC denounced the dissemination of such misinformation, stating that it distorts market realities and misleads stakeholders. It warned of legal actions against those spreading false reports about its operations, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and integrity.

The company urged media organizations to verify facts before publishing to maintain journalistic integrity. NNPC reiterated its dedication to transparency and resistance against efforts to manipulate public perception.
