The Ministry of Transportation has denied the validity of reports claiming an upcoming launch of a high-speed bullet train between Lagos and Abuja that would significantly reduce travel time. In a statement, the ministry clarified that the circulated information is false and baseless.
The ministry highlighted that a company, Geofocus Consortium, had proposed the construction of a bullet train in 2016 under a Public-Private Partnership model. However, the proposal is still under review by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) due to outstanding requirements, including proof of funds.
The ministry emphasized that the feasibility studies are not completed, and funds have not been secured as claimed by the company. They called on Geofocus Consortium to apologize for spreading inaccurate information and urged the public to be cautious of fake news.
Furthermore, the ministry under the leadership of the Minister of Transportation is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities in the transportation sector and supporting the President’s agenda for the sector’s development. They seek cooperation from all stakeholders for the sector’s success.
