Recent discussions between some Pension Union executives and the Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration to improve the welfare of retirees.
Representatives from various pension unions, including the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, the National Association of Retired Paramilitary Officers, and the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, visited the PTAD Headquarters in Abuja to discuss issues affecting retirees.
During the meeting, the national president of ARPON, AIG Paul Ochonu (Rtd.), praised PTAD for the ‘I am Alive’ confirmation solution, noting that members have found it user-friendly for confirming their status from home.
Conversations with NARPO and NUP executives centered on enhancing cooperation between PTAD and the Pension Unions to address pension harmonization, computation challenges, the N32,000 pension increment, and other outstanding payments.
In response to queries about the delayed implementation of the N32,000 pension increment for 2024, the ES PTAD assured that payments would be processed once funds from the 2025 budget are available.
Expressing gratitude for the unions’ dedication, Odunaiya pledged PTAD’s continued collaboration with stakeholders to resolve issues raised and prioritize the well-being of DBS pensioners.
Earlier, PTAD affirmed its commitment to implementing the approved N32,000 pension increment for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme, following discrepancies noted in the January 2025 pension payments. The delay was attributed to fund release delays.
Established in August 2013, PTAD manages the old pension scheme for pre-June 2007 retirees who did not transition to the new system.
