The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s work in constructing and completing Human Rights Commission offices in various states. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the NHRC office in Kebbi State. Idris highlighted the government’s dedication, led by President Bola Tinubu, to enhance collaboration and implementation of human rights initiatives nationwide. He also pledged to support the office by connecting it to the national grid and providing operational resources.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), reassured that the government, under Tinubu, respects the independence of the NHRC and is committed to safeguarding the rights of all citizens. Fagbemi emphasized the government’s support for the NHRC’s autonomy and its mission to protect human rights.
The Chairperson of the NHRC’s Governing Council, Dr Salamatu Suleiman, mentioned the commission’s efforts to establish new offices with government backing. She urged for increased funding and resources to fulfill the NHRC’s mandate effectively. Dr Tony Ojukwu, the NHRC’s Executive Secretary, stressed the importance of promoting and protecting human rights in Nigeria and engaging stakeholders on critical issues. He emphasized that upholding human rights is not just a legal obligation but a moral duty to create a society based on dignity, freedom, and justice.
