Spotlight on young House of Assembly speakers

In Nigeria’s political landscape, a wave of young leaders has emerged in various Houses of Assembly nationwide, injecting new perspectives into governance. Muhammad Luggerewo, aged 40, hailing from Maiduguri, serves as the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, representing the Akko Central constituency. His educational journey began at Ngarannam Primary School and culminated in a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Maiduguri. Transitioning from a banking career, he ventured into politics in 2019, subsequently becoming the House Speaker.

Muhammad Luggerewo has made strides in modernizing the legislative process and advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities. Despite facing election challenges, he continues to champion developmental projects within his constituency and holds key positions at the national level, contributing significantly to regional legislative affairs.

Jibril Falgore, aged 39, represents the Rogo constituency as the Speaker of the 10th Kano State House of Assembly. Under his leadership, the Assembly has taken notable legislative actions, including repealing the Kano Emirates Council Law of 2019. He has also been involved in various initiatives to enhance the welfare of his constituents and address local issues effectively.

Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, aged 39, from Kwara State, is known for his contributions to the state’s legislative processes. His journey from academia to politics led to his election as Speaker of the ninth Kwara State House of Assembly. Adewale Egbedun, aged 39, serves as the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, representing the Odo-Otin State Constituency. His trajectory from entrepreneurship to politics underscores his commitment to public service. Adebo Ogundoyin, aged 38, represents the Ibarapa East Constituency in Oyo State and holds the position of Speaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly. Gabriel Dewan, at the age of 30, emerged as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly in Plateau State, representing the Pankshin North State Constituency.
