China has announced new tariffs on various agricultural imports from the United States as a response to the recent tariff increase by the US. The tariffs will include an additional 15% on products like chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton, and an extra 10% on items such as sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. This decision comes after US President Donald Trump raised existing tariffs on Chinese goods. Beijing criticized the US for the unilateral imposition of tariffs and stated that it would take countermeasures. China’s finance ministry expressed concerns about the impact on US companies and consumers and the trade cooperation foundation between the two countries. The commerce ministry also announced plans to file a lawsuit at the World Trade Organisation over the new tariffs.
