Offa poly to host 22nd NIPOGA April

The Federal Polytechnic in Offa, Kwara state is preparing to host the 22nd edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games, known as “IJAKADI 2024”.

During a media briefing at the campus, the Rector of the polytechnic, Engr Kamoru Kadiri, announced that the NIPOGA is scheduled to take place from April 2nd to April 12th, 2025.

This will be the first time in 33 years that the institution will host the NIPOGA sporting events, which will be held across both campuses of the polytechnic.

Athletes from approximately 50 polytechnics nationwide will participate in sports like badminton, basketball, chess, tennis, athletics, football, handball, judo, scrabble, taekwondo, and volleyball, competing for medals.

Enhanced sports facilities, equipment, and a modern sports complex are prepared for the competition. The goal is to elevate the games through enhanced participation, officiating, sportsmanship, friendship, inclusivity, and social unity.

Extensive renovations and reconstruction have been done on hostel accommodations to ensure the comfort of student-athletes and officials. Medical facilities are in place, including ambulance services, overseen by a Medical Sub-Committee for the event.

The focus of the tournament extends beyond winning medals, aiming to build connections, break barriers, and celebrate diversity.

Hosting the NIPOGA is also about taking sports to the grassroots, providing a platform for talent identification and fostering student participation in international sporting events.

Emphasizing the need for additional sponsorships, the Rector highlighted the benefits of sports, including physical and mental health, socioeconomic growth for Offa town, and networking opportunities.

Assurances were given regarding tight security measures for the national event, ensuring a safe and successful tournament.
